Statement lighting, fabrics, wallpaper and other
'living room' pieces are marching into our bathrooms
to create a lounging zone.
Clinical is out, decoration is in. The luxe trend calls for traditional 'living room'
furniture and fixtures to move into the bathroom. Lighting has led the
charge, with sculptural, refined and statement pendants hanging proud as
focal points; while tiles with subtle, decadent or bold patterns are lining not only our
showers or other splash zones, but also making their way out into the main areas of
the room to add visual punch. Wallpapers, too, are appearing in bathrooms: some
companies are bringing out papers with a high water resistance and professionals
are simply sealing the papers at the seams to ensure longevity. High-tech fabrics
are another luxe element that's de rigueur for this look in line with the current trend
towards curtains, and fabrics in furniture, such as chairs (seen here) or ottomans, is
another way to bring in a sense of luxury. Occasional tables are finding their way into
the wet room, too, accentuating the bathroom's move from being a place to simply
clean and preen, to a zone where you can spend more time (you no longer have to
reapply your nail polish at the kitchen table!). This bathroom pictured is a concept by
bathware company Rogerseller for its Coco by Falper range and epitomises the trend.
The company has picked up on the current Art Deco resurgence in design to o er an
overall glam approach, where a black-and-white scheme provides a classic backdrop
for modern fittings. Rogerseller (08) 6389 1366, www.rogerseller.com.au.
How to bring in the look:
• Decorative walls, thanks to wallpaper or
patterned tiles, soften a space.
• Designer or antique chairs, occasional tables
and collections bring in a personal feel.
• Bathroom standards, such as vanities, that
mirror furniture are a major trend.
• Comfortable lounging areas where you can
spend more time are a must.
