Black and white. It just
makes sense – like a freshly
pressed tuxedo, or salt and
pepper. However, we are
not all minimalists. Some
of us need more – more
drama, a little pomp and
ceremony, a few superlatives.
These bathrooms remind us
that the classic pairing is not
afraid to loosen its tie.
MITROVSKI HOUSE, GREG NATALE
Once a 1940s duplex in Sydney’s east, with a residence on each floor, this building was transformed into
a grand single dwelling. The clients, a young family, wanted an edgy home with a French air, and designer
Greg Natale responded with aplomb. Inspired by Paris and Versailles, he introduced classic elements to this
bathroom, like checkerboard tiles, paired with Devon and Devon’s Jacqueline vanity to create a modern
grandeur. The organic shapes in the hypnotic Malachite wallpaper from Cole & Son are reflected within
the patterned marble, and paint a bold backdrop for the art deco-inspired Jonathan Adler wall sconces.
This home is in the running for a 2013 Australian Interior Design Award. Greg Natale (02) 8399 2103,
